11-25-09 What’s Your Big Idea?

Like it or not, the holiday season is upon
us. Soon, millions of people all around the
world will be exchanging gifts. If you’re
like me you like to find one gift that works
for many people, a gift that everyone could
use. Millions of people suffer from dry skin
irritations and conditions. The soaps that
we use can be a contributing factor.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a healthy,
natural way to alleviate the dryness and get
clean at the same time? Well there is.
Jim and P.J. Jonas met while they were students at The University of Virginia. They fell in love, got married and started a life together in New Jersey. Jim was a junior high science teacher. P.J. was a systems engineer. After several years and several children, the couple wanted more space for their growing family. This would cost a fortune in New Jersey. They took a gigantic leap of faith, moving to Charlestown, IN. where they knew no one and had no job offers. What they did have was a dream to raise their children on the three acre homestead, with clean air and plenty of room for the children to roam, which they moved to.
They hoped to one day have a family business and trusted that the Lord would show them the way. Jim met a man at church who gave him a job as a garbage man. He was thankful to have found work until they found their family business.
P.J. became disenchanted with the soaps found in stores. She did not like the harsh chemicals used to make them on her children’s skin. She did some research on the Internet and discovered that goat milk soap is naturally moisturizing and can be made without harsh chemicals. The Jonas’ purchased some goats and learned to make it, for themselves at first. Eventually they came to realize that this could be their family business.
Making goat milk soap has become a full time job for the Jonas family. They currently have 37 scents. During a busy month they sell several thousand bars. They like to keep track of where the soap goes. It has made it to all 7 continents, even Antarctica! Every one in the family has their own job in the business. The Jonas kids are natural entrepreneurs. They have even started their own business on the side, knitting and selling wash cloths. This is very impressive for Brett(12), Colter(11), Emory(9), Fletcher(8), Greyden(6), Hewitt(5), Indigo(3), and Jade(2). The kids even have had job offers for when they turn of age.
Each bar of the Jonas’ goat milk soap contains over 1 oz, of goat milk. The goats are raised on their homestead with no antibiotics or hormones. There are no harsh chemicals added to the soap. They even have a bar that is 100% certified organic. The goat milk soap will make great stocking stuffers and even come in nice little bags. P.J. says,” I don’t know how we survived some years. Everything is a God issue, even making soap. We are successful because we prayed for years, found the right thing at the right time, and work really hard. The greatest reward is when a mother tells me that her baby has finally stopped itching.” I have used the soap and love it. The Jonas family has a saying:” If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” This would be a great saying for the whole country to adopt. Let’s all work hard and get our economy moving again. Good luck. K.B.
