Goat Milk Soap WHAS11 Interview

For Jim and PJ plus eight, goat milk is a family business affair

By WHAS11 News Reporter Rachel Platt

WHAS11’s Rachel Platt visits with the Jonas family – all 10 of them – to discuss their flourishing, family-operated soap business.

The Charlestown, Ind. family – headed by Jim and P.J. Jonas – produce goat milk soap from goats in their own backyard.

Each family member plays a part in the business.

Brett, 13, Colter, 11, Emery, 9, Fletcher, 8, Greyden, 7, Hewitt, 5, Indi, 3, and Jade, 2, all contribute to the business with various duties ranging from milking the goats each morning, weighing and recording milk, mixing, packing and selling the product. All of the family members receive compensation for their work.

P.J. said she wanted to start the business following an incident in the bathroom.

“I was bathing the children [and I] looked at the label with all the chemicals and thought, ‘I can do better than this,’” P.J. Jonas said.

Now, the family-operated business has sold 45,000 soap bars worldwide.
