Our First 5K

Our home church decided to run a “Race for Grace” 5K to help support a new local Christian school. It was the Jonas family’s first ever 5K. I’d like to say that we trained, but…

We didn’t. But we weren’t too unprepared. The boys all run and Jim and I walk together a lot.

The three youngest Jonases (Hewitt, Indigo, and Jade), ran a 1/4 mile. They all did amazing. They ran the entire time and didn’t walk at all.  But we all tried really hard not to laugh at Jade as she ran.

The problem is, Jade HATES to lose. Really, really hates it. She was the youngest one running the 1/4 mile, which put her at the back. Which she did NOT like.

So she ran it – crying – the whole way. When she got to the finish line she and Jim had a conversation.

Jim: “Good job, Jadey-Bug! You did great!”

Jade: “I’m the loser.”

Jim: “You’re not the loser, you were the fastest four year old there!”

Jade: “I’m the four year old loser.”

Oh well, he tried.

Then it was time for us to run the 5K. The wind was really strong, which made some of it really, really difficult. The boys all ran it, Jim & I alternated walking and jogging (but mostly walking), and Brett walked it with a friend.

Here are our times:

Colter    21:49
Emery    27:30
Fletcher 29:37
Greyden 36:53
Jim        40:41
PJ         40:41
Brett     50:38

It was a great experience and Colter is already planning for his next one!
