When I Grow Up

We went to the Olive Garden for Emery’s birthday. We don’t go there that often, because it is so expensive. But Emery really loves Italian food, so we decided to splurge and make him really happy.  He always gets the Tour of Italy and then brings the leftovers home for lunch the next day.

When we arrived, there was a man sitting in the lobby passing out stickers. Since I had a headache, I paid no attention to what the kids were doing and just sat there hoping my head would adjust to the noise. By the time my head was adjusted, we were walking back to our table. As we sat down, I noticed that Indigo had this huge roll of stickers. When I asked her what they were, she told me that they were stickers that told you what you were going to be when you grew up.

So I sat up really straight in my chair and asked her if I could see them.  I thought since Chinese restaurants had fortune cookies, Italian restaurants might have fortune stickers.

Unfortunately, they were not fortune telling stickers as I had hoped.

They were stickers that said “When I Grow Up I Want To Be A  ___________”.

I asked Indigo what her sticker said.  Indigo had written “Princess” on her sticker. No surprise there!

Jade had not yet written on her sticker, so I asked her what she wanted to be.

Jade: “When I grow up, I want to be the Best Colorer with crayons, EVER!!!”

That was a little long to write, so Mom just wrote “artist” (she’s smart that way, and since Jade can’t read yet, it was all good).

Hewitt had a similar dilemma, but he came up with a really good solution.  He got TWO stickers and wrote “chicken” on one and “farmer” on the other.

I was just really pleased that the stickers and crayons kept everybody occupied until the food arrived!
