Homeschooling II

Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Podcast Episode 030.
Homeschooling at the Jonas house takes place all the time.  Somebody is always learning something and the older children often help the younger children.

Homeschool

This is part two in our homeschooling series.  Jim and I finish our initial discussion and then start answering some of the questions we received.  I was sick when I recorded the introduction and you’ll hear it in my voice.  But the interview sounds fine.  Tune in next week as we continue answering homeschooling questions.

  1. I found the part about socialization most interesting. I completely agree with what the two of you said about the typical classroom setting not always being an ideal way to learn social skills. I never thought about learning those skills in the different ways you pointed out, from the people you see in everyday life – the mailman, the check-out clerk, church members, etc. A lot of people (including myself before listening) tend to see “socializing” as being in a group with kids your own age.  I was very introverted as a child and feel it was made worse by bullies throughout my early educational experience.. I loved learning but I hated going to school. What a great podcast – thank you guys so much for sharing.

    • Hi Beth,  I’m so glad that you enjoyed the podcast.  That’s our biggest goal – to open people’s eyes to the fact that there are different ways to school.  You don’t have to do things the way we do it, but you don’t have to do it the “traditional school” way either!  Do what’s best for your and your children.  We’re all individuals and we have different needs!

It makes me sad that you had trouble with bullies and hated going to school.  Learning is such a special thing and should be surrounded with positive emotions and feelings.
