Growing Oats

We love our new milking room.  We have room for 5 milk stands and have set it up really well.

The goats come in.

The boys milk.

When they are done, they sweep up the floor.

And feed the spilled oats to the chickens.

Then they hose down the milk stands and floor.

Everything has been working well.  But all of a sudden, the drain stopped draining.  So Jim investigated and quickly discovered the problem.

Apparently the boys have gotten a little bit lazy about sweeping up all of the oats.  Because when Jim pulled off the drain cover, he discovered this.

Yep – they’re growing our own mini oat field in the drain.

Needless to say, Jim had a little discussion with the boys. It was a great learning lesson for the boys that not doing a good job usually comes back to haunt you!

  1. Yep. Kids (and I must admit, adults too!) like to just “sweep it under the rug” and think they can get away with it sometimes!!! But as you said: it will come back to haunt you and you’ll just end up taking care of it the right way after all!!!
