Top Three Dangers at Disney World
Having just spent time at Disney World with my 8 children, my wife, and her parents, I decided it was high time I alerted the public to the greatest hazards to be found at the "Most Magical Place on Earth." Sure, there are parade floats to avoid, high-speed rides to hang on to tightly, and the normal dangers associated with mass transit such as buses and monorails. But there are always helpful, and usually friendly cast members to mitigate those risks. I'm talking about when it's ... Read More »

Goat Milk Stuff Contest! – Now Closed
It's kidding season at Goat Milk Stuff and soon there will be baby goats everywhere! We're going to have a contest to see if anyone can guess the number of baby girl and baby boy goats we're having this season. Last year we freshened 18 does and had 38 kids (14 doelings and 24 bucklings). This year we are freshening 21 does. Three goats have freshened so far and we are at 6 kids (5 doelings and 1 buckling - a much better ratio!). To enter, leave a comment below with your guess (make ... Read More »

7 Principles for Non-Annoying Bragging
While we were vacationing with my Mom at Disney World, the cast members brought out some hula hoops. My children all have their own weighted exercise hula hoops and they use them all the time. So when Indigo saw the hoops, she went running over and started to use one. We were soon joined by two parents with their single daughter who looked to be about six. When the daughter started hula hooping, the parents announced to the general public that their daughter is a hula hoop champion. ... Read More »

Myna’s Triplets
Myna Bird was the first of our does to kid this year. Last year she had three bucks, so we were really hoping to get some doelings out of her this year. She didn't disappoint us and again gave birth to triplets. But this time, she had one buckling and two doelings! Here are some photos of them at one day old when the children took them outside to play. From left to right is Marcus, Mermaid, and Minerva (Minnie): Marcus and Mermaid: Marcus running around the field: Minnie is ... Read More »

Multitasking
As busy moms, we often believe that we can be more productive if we multitask more. But this is not necessarily true. Multitasking is defined as "the performance of multiple tasks at one time." Because our brains are not wired to multitask, attempting to do so can actually make us more inefficient. I have found that the best way for me to multitask is to do two (or more) tasks at the same time that do not require thought. During this podcast I discuss how I multitask and ... Read More »

Being Polite
One of the compliments I hear most often about my children is how polite they are. I find that very comforting and very sad at the same time. Don't get me wrong. I'm very pleased that my children are polite to other people. That is how we've trained them. Yet the fact that so many people point out to me how impolite other children act shows the lack of importance many parents are placing on teaching manners. As with anything, the best way to teach your children to be polite ... Read More »

Work Yourself Out of a Job
I recently was introduced to the blogging fathersphere. There I found a lot of really cool Dads who spend a lot of time reflecting on fatherhood and making some excellent points about the whole experience. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was asked for advice, being the newcomer and all. Turns out, having 8 kids gives me some ‘street cred’ with some online dads. It got me thinking about what I actually do know about fatherhood. Although I know a bunch of tips and tricks, many ... Read More »
