Homestead Happenings December 2018

December has been packed with Christmas cheer, food, and family.

Our grandson, Landon, had quite the busy month. He turned a month old, found his voice and his hands, experienced his first Christmas, grew to over 10 lbs, and graduated from newborn clothes and diapers to the next size up!

Grammy and Gumpy drove down from New Hampshire to visit the family and meet Landon. It was a short but wonderful visit, and we’re so glad they were able to come.

Landon didn’t get a bath in the hospital for a few days because they didn’t want to cause him any more stress after how difficult his birth was. But when it was time for his first bath, we removed the baby wash the hospital provided and replaced it with our organic castile goat milk soap instead. Nothing but the most mild, natural soap for our little man!

We were able to get some pictures of his first bath at home. He wasn’t thrilled about bath time. 😉 But we’re definitely a fan of how soft and smooth the Organic Castile makes his skin feel!

Before the Sweet Shop closed for the season, we had two special weekends serving our handmade artisan goat cheese pizzas, and Mediterranean inspired foods, like gyros made with our goat cheese, and baklava. The customers enjoyed it, but I think the family might have enjoyed eating the leftovers even more!

We had two birthdays in December – Greyden turned 16 and Brett turned 22. It’s been a busy year for both of them. Brett, as you all know, got married and had a son this year. As for Greyden, he celebrated his 16th birthday by going out and getting his driver’s permit! Since he’s been driving the tractor, he’s confident that learning to drive on the road won’t be too difficult.

December is always one of our busiest times of year at work, but we make sure to make time for our family’s traditions.

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is painting ornaments. We buy unpainted plaster ornaments at a crafting store and each of the children paints one. It’s amazing to see how they’ve improved over the years!

Our favorite New Year’s Eve tradition is eating all of the junk food that we don’t normally eat (like pizza rolls, jalapeno poppers, bagel bites, and more), and at midnight heading outside to bang pots and pans and shout “Happy New Year” to anyone unfortunate enough to be close enough to hear it.

We had a very merry Christmas, and hope that those of you who celebrate had a wonderful Christmas as well!

With a wedding, 200 baby goats born, getting a tractor, starting a lunch service, putting live-streaming cameras in the barns, and a new baby joining the family, 2018 has been quite the wild ride for Goat Milk Stuff and the Jonas family. We’re so thankful for all of you, your support, and the fact that we can do what we love as a family. We are looking forward to 2019, and hope that it will be just as incredible!
