If you suffer from symptoms of eczema, you may have already been down the skincare aisle at your pharmacy searching for products that can help soothe irritation and itchiness. Often, it’s to no avail.
That’s why dermatologists and people living with eczema have caught on to a remedy that many find effective in reducing the negative effects of eczema: goat milk soap. Yes, you can actually soothe eczema with goat milk soap.
Oftentimes, external irritants play a big role in worsening the symptoms of eczema. This includes the irritants commonly found in consumer skincare products, such as soaps and body washes. Goat milk soap, on the other hand, is completely natural and has nutrients, fats, and oils that actually hydrate skin.
Many consumer soaps on the market include chemicals and irritants that can dry out and inflame your skin, especially when you have eczema. This includes soaps with allergens, products with harsh cleansing ingredients, and soaps with dyes and fragrances.
While these soaps may dry out your skin, goat milk soap has the opposite effect by nourishing the skin with nutrients and actually strengthening its natural barrier. People with eczema usually experience a deficiency of naturally occurring fats and oils in the skin. Goat milk contains various fatty acids that are effective in hydrating your skin in the ways that it needs it most.
When you have symptoms of eczema, the milk-fat and oil base of goat milk soap go a long way in nourishing and strengthening the skin. These ingredients help your skin in multiple ways. For one, it offers quick hydration for your skin, which is necessary to strengthen it and help it recover from dehydration. Additionally, the infusion of natural fats and oils allows the skin to better retain water, keeping it healthier and better protected from the elements.
Goat milk also has a long list of essential vitamins and nutrients that your skin benefits from when applied. One of them is Vitamin A, which is considered one of the most important vitamins when it comes to keeping skin moisturized and promoting natural collagen production, an important protein for keeping your skin’s elasticity.
Other nutrients found in smaller quantities in goat milk are Vitamins D and E. Vitamin D is known to make your skin softer and Vitamin E also promotes toned skin. There are also plenty of other micronutrients found in goat milk soap that play a part in making your skin healthier.
Overall, the natural ingredients are found to be highly effective at hydrating dry skin and soothing any redness and itchiness. When experiencing eczema breakouts and irritation, many people with dry skin conditions find that topically applying goat milk soap to their skin offers quick relief and reduces symptoms.
Eczema is a very common skin condition — over 31 million people in the U.S. have some form of it — in which the skin becomes irritated and inflamed. This manifests in symptoms of dry skin, itchiness, redness, rashes, and even skin infections.
There are several different types of eczema that people can have, and it can occur at any age. Eczema can occur later in life for a number of possible reasons. It’s also possible to have acute eczema, wherein a person has certain patches of skin that experience symptoms of dryness and itchiness.
Because there is such a wide range of severity of eczema symptoms — from mild to very severe — there is also a range of possible causes of it. Most commonly, eczema occurs from some combination of environmental (external) irritants or allergens, your skin type and genetic makeup, and your body’s immune system.
It’s also possible for eczema symptoms to flare-up from your skin rubbing against itself (chafing) or abrasive fabrics. Of course, if your skin becomes dehydrated — which can occur naturally and/or from environmental factors — that can trigger an onset of symptoms of eczema.
Some people find that eczema occurs and/or worsens for them when they are stressed. Like other triggers of eczema, the physiological reason for why this happens isn’t clear, but certainly stress is an irritant to your body in and of itself.
No matter what, the most important part of living with and managing eczema is knowing your skin’s triggers and having go-to remedies that can help alleviate the symptoms. Many have found that natural goat milk can help them soothe a variety of symptoms when they occur.
As explained above, there are a number of reasons why people have found goat milk soap effective in helping to soothe symptoms of eczema. Goat’s milk has naturally occurring nutrients and ingredients that hydrate and protect your skin, as opposed to the stuff that’s found in chemical-based consumer soaps.
The National Eczema Association has a list of common ingredients to avoid in soaps, none of which are found in goat milk soap. Unfortunately, though, many are preservatives, dyes, and abrasive cleaning ingredients commonly found in commercial soaps.
For people experiencing symptoms of eczema, one of the easiest things you can do is switch out your skincare products — including soaps and body washes — for natural ones. Those who switch to goat milk soap often find that the condition of their skin can improve quickly, even after one use.
That’s because goat milk soap actually hydrates skin instead of breaking down its natural fats and oils. In fact, most skin types can benefit from the natural properties of goat milk soap, but the results are even more impactful for those with irritated, itchy, red skin.
Because everyone's skin is different, Goat Milk Stuff has created several different soaps designed to help soothe eczema. These different soap formulas provides you with options to find which particular soap is best for your individual skin.
Purity Goat Milk Soap. We recommend beginning with the Purity Goat Milk Soap. This is plain, unscented, good for you soap. It is designed to last a long time and will give you a good baseline for how your skin responds to goat milk soap and what improvements it will have on your eczema. This is our most popular soap for soothing eczema symptoms.

I recommend it to everyone, including to my sister when her daughter (my niece) starting presenting with severe eczema. After my sister started using the Purity soap on her, the eczema cleared up and has stayed away. I also really appreciate how committed PJ and her family are to keeping their products free from harmful ingredients. I feel better knowing that I'm putting safe products on my skin." - Caroline |
Organic Castile Goat Milk Soap. The next soap we recommend trying is the Organic Castile Goat Milk Soap. This is another unscented soap, but it is completely different from the Purity. It is made with just organic extra virgin olive oil and goat milk. It will not last as long as the Purity since olive oil is a very soft oil, but it is the most gentle soap we can make. Extremely sensitive and eczema prone skin may need this mild soap that has a gentle, lotion-like lather.

This saved the day. The best yet out of all your soaps for dry skin. No more problems here with dry skin thanks to Goat Milk Stuff and your QUALITY SOAPS!!!! THANK YOU!" - Kelly M. |
Calendula Goat Milk Soap. We also recommend trying the Calendula Goat Milk Soap. Calendula flowers have been used for centuries to soothe troubled skin. We infuse calendula flowers in olive oil and add some castor oil to this soap. The castor oil will help the soap to last a little longer and provide a slightly more bubbly lather. This soap has been increasing in popularity for helping to soothe eczema.

All three of these soaps are available in 3 different sizes including a travel bar so you can test them all out to see which one works best before committing to the larger size.
Keep in mind that you should use each soap for a week before moving on to the next soap. This will give you an idea of how each soap formula impacts your skin. None of these soaps should further irritate your eczema. There is a small number of people who are allergic to goat milk. Be sure to patch test the soap before using it all over if you've never used goat milk soap before.
Natural Laundry Soap. We do recommend using the Natural Laundry Soap to wash your clothes and anything your skin regularly comes into contact with such as sheets and towels.. Most commercial laundry soaps contain chemicals that bind to your clothing and can worsen your eczema.
The Natural Laundry soap in contrast washes completely clean from your clothes, sheets, towels, and anything that comes into contact with your skin. This lessens the possibility of ingredients further irritating your skin.

I have skin-sensitivity & chemical issues, and find this product not only handles them all, but also makes my clothes look & smell great also! This laundry soap is the best I've ever used, and well worth the investment. A little lasts a long while." - Maria P. |
Unscented Solid Goat Milk Lotion. After you have used the soap for a week, we recommend adding the Unscented Lotion to your skincare routine. It is incredibly important to understand the dangers of liquid lotion and how it can worsen your eczema symptoms.

Liquid lotions are breeding grounds for bacteria and other microscopic nasties. Because of this, manufacturers need to add chemical preservatives to keep bacteria from growing. Especially with lotions that add liquid goat milk - you need to be careful that the chemical preservatives added to keep the product "safe" does not worsen your eczema symptoms.
At Goat Milk Stuff, we will not make a liquid goat milk lotion because we believe the addition of chemical preservatives that are necessary to prevent bacteria growth are not healthy or beneficial for you or your skin.
Instead we make a solid goat milk lotion. Because there is not liquid used to make our solid lotion, bacteria does not grow. This is much safer for you and your eczema. A solid goat milk lotion will help soothe your eczema like no liquid lotion (even goat milk lotion) can.
At Goat Milk Stuff, our purpose is to bring you joy through the goodness of goat milk. We know that healthy skin is happy skin and we want to enable you to find the joy that healthy skin can bring. Goat milk soap is great for keeping your skin healthy and soothing your eczema symptoms. We pray it makes a huge difference for you and that you find relief!
