Castile Olive Oil Naked Goat Milk Soap

Castile soap has no added scent.

The unscented soap varieties smell like soap, yet do not have any added scents or fragrances (including essential oils!) to reduce the risk of irritation. Unscented soap does still have a smell because the ingredients used in soap production contain natural scents that we do not chemically remove. For example, coconut oil smells like coconut oil, milk smells like milk, and unscented soap smells like unscented soap.

If you are hyper-sensitive to scents in general, start with a smaller sized bar to make sure the pure soap smell itself is not irritating.

Please be aware that we make many scented products in our Soaproom. While there is no added scent to the Castile Olive Oil Goat Milk Soap itself, when you receive your soap you may be able to smell scents on the exterior of your soap and the packaging it arrives in. If you are extremely sensitive to scent, you can remove the packaging and even wash with the soap once to remove any scent that may have settled out of the air onto your soap.

We would love to someday have a separate building dedicated to unscented products and packaging, but unfortunately, we don't have that ability at present.

We weigh all soaps six weeks after we make them to make sure they’re heavy enough. As the soaps get older, they last longer. But they might get a bit lighter over time because they lose some water weight.

Raw Goat Milk
Unlike many other soapmakers, we use fresh, raw goat milk from our own herd of healthy, pastured dairy goats. Our milk travels just a few hundred feet from our milking parlor to our soaproom. It doesn't have to travel hundreds of miles or be turned into powder. In fact, we often make our soap the same day we milk our goats! Goat milk naturally contains vitamins, minerals, fats, and lactic acid. It's one of the key ingredients that makes our handmade goat milk soap special and helps create a creamy lather that leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Olive oil is a natural emollient that is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, including vitamin E and polyphenols. It is a popular ingredient in skincare products because of its moisturizing qualities. When used in our handmade goat milk soap, olive oil helps create a gentle, creamy lather that leaves skin feeling clean, soft, and smooth.

What Does Saponified Mean?
Saponification is the natural chemical reaction that turns fats and oils into soap. We use sodium hydroxide (lye) to make our bar soap and potassium hydroxide to make our liquid soap. During soapmaking, the lye reacts with the fats and oils to form soap and glycerin. When soap is made correctly, the lye is used up in this reaction, so no unreacted lye remains in the finished product.

That's how we turn simple ingredients into handmade goat milk soap!

1. Wet. Wet your skin and the soap with warm water.
2. Lather. Rub the soap between your hands, onto a washcloth, or directly onto your skin to create a creamy lather.
3. Wash. Gently wash your hands, face, and body. For external use only. Avoid direct contact with your eyes.
4. Rinse. Rinse thoroughly with water to remove all soap lather.
5. Keep Dry Between Uses. Place your soap on a soap rest that allows water to drain away. This helps your soap dry between uses so it lasts longer.
6. Patch Test First. If you're trying this soap for the first time, test it on a small area of skin before using it all over your body. Stop using it if irritation occurs.
