Does Goat Milk Soap Clog Pores?

Does Goat Milk Soap Clog Pores?

We all want beautiful skin that is free of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, or acne. If you’ve ever struggled with skin that is prone to break-outs, a natural goat milk soap is a great addition to your skincare routine because it does not clog pores.

Your skin contains many pores that look like tiny dots on the surface of your skin. These pores are the openings of hair follicles, and each one contains a sebaceous gland. The sebaceous gland is responsible for producing the natural oil (sebum) that your skin needs. Some pores appear larger than others because those pores have larger sebaceous glands.

A comedo is a clogged pore. It occurs when dead skin cells or other dirt and debris combine with the sebum to block or clog the pore. If the comedo is open, it is a blackhead. And if the comedo is closed by skin, it is a whitehead. Blackheads and whiteheads (and pimples in general) may be a symptom of acne, which is considered a skin disease.

Why does goat milk soap help with acne and pimples?

There are four main reasons that goat milk soap can benefit skin that is prone to breakouts.

Goat milk soap is great for exfoliation. Goat milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids (such as lactic acid) that help break down the dead skin cells. When you wash with goat milk soap, it helps break down the dead skin cells and washes them away so that they can't be left behind to clog your pores. Alpha-hydroxy acids may be added to other chemical-laden skincare products, but nothing beats the perfect balance that occurs naturally with goat milk soap.

Goat milk is naturally anti-inflammatory. A recent study has shown that drinking goat milk releases anti-inflammatory cytokines in the body. Using goat milk on your skin may have a similar effect. Goat milk also contains natural fat molecules that not only moisturize your skin, but also have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Goat milk soap helps kill bacteria. Goat milk soap and goat milk have known anti-bacterial properties. Especially when tea tree essential oil is added to the soap, these qualities can help kill bacteria that contribute to acne.

Goat milk soap contains vitamin A and selenium.  Both of these are essential for repairing damaged skin tissue which is essential to keep the skin healthy and prevent clogged pores that ultimately lead to breakouts.

Is goat milk soap noncomedogenic?

Noncomedogenic means that the item or ingredient is not likely to cause clogged pores, also known as comedones (the plural form of a comedo). There are no regulations over the use of the word “noncomedogenic”. Marketers can use the word whenever they like, whether they’ve tested the product to determine its rating on a comedogenic scale or not.

Remember - just because a soap is labeled noncomedogenenic does not mean it won’t clog your pores. It just means it is less likely to do so. As we say all the time, everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently to different items. You should always test the soap on your skin to see how it reacts.

At Goat Milk Stuff, we do not declare our goat milk soaps to be noncomedogenic (even though we believe they are). The reason for this is because we have not performed any independent tests of our soap to see how it scores on the comedogenic scale.

Why not?

It's very simple - we do not test any of our products on animals. To test and see if a product is comedogenic, it is most often applied to a rabbit’s ear to see if any comedones develop over time. We will never perform animal testing with our soaps and other bath and body products. And so, we will never have our soap declared noncomedogenic.

Instead of animal testing, we use the feedback from hundreds (if not thousands) of customers who have used our soap with specific regard to improving their acne and pimples.

Here are just a few comments we have received:

"Hello, Jonas family! I just want to let you know how much I LOVE your soap! I have tried two other goats' milk soap companies on etsy and yours is BY FAR the best! The others did not last long at all and didn't lather. I just wanted to let you know your hard work is really helping people. I am 55 years old and have had cystic acne all my life. I have tried everything, even prescription acne medication and skin peels. Your Purity Soap is the only thing that has cleared it up without drying my skin out. Thank you!"

"I just wanted to say thank you for making such quality products. I am 23 and have been struggling with acne for about 10 years. About a month ago, my grandmother gave me a bar of your clean cotton soap. I did some research, and decided to ditch all of my prescription soaps and creams to give it a serious try. I am so happy I did! After about 2 weeks of washing my face with your soap twice a day, I noticed that instead of breaking out, I would only get 1 or 2 pimples every few days. That alone was huge progress for my skin. As of today, after going through almost a bar and a half of the clean cotton soap over a month, I am 100% clear and haven't seen any acne in about a week and a half. This has done wonders for my confidence, which has helped me socially, at work, and at school. I can't believe that after everything I have tried, and all these years, the simplicity of goat milk soap was the answer. I am a new lifelong customer! Thank you so much! "

As you can see, these customers and many others have found relief from their breakouts with the use of our goat milk soap.

So don't worry about marketing labels. Noncomedogenic is simply another fancy marketing term that is used by big companies to try to convince you that their product is good for your skin. Beware of the noncomedogenic soaps and skincare that contain unhealthy chemical ingredients. Even though our soap is not tested or branded as noncomedogenic, it is a natural goat milk soap that is made with natural ingredients and good for your skin.
