Cancer Frequently Asked Questions
What Does Chemo Do To Your Skin?
Chemotherapy or radiation therapy tends to make the skin itchy, dry, and sensitive. It can also cause the skin to peel, become redder or darker in color or even sunburn more easily. It affects not only the skin but also the hair and nails.
What Is The Best Skin Care For Chemo Patients?
During chemotherapy, your skin becomes fragile and dry. Your skin is the largest organ in the body and plays a huge role in fighting germs and protecting you from chemicals. During chemo, this ability is lessened at a time when you have a suppressed immune system, making you more vulnerable.
Your skincare routine will play a vital role in protecting yourself and your skin. One of the most important things you can do is moisturize your skin. Our goat milk soaps can help naturally hydrate the skin because they contain naturally occurring fatty acids and proteins.
Another item you should include in your skincare routine is a natural moisturizer such as our unscented solid goat milk lotion. Of course, the products you select should be non-fragrant and specially created for people with sensitive skin.
What Benefits Does Goat Milk Soap Have For Sensitive Skin?
Goat milk soap possesses numerous natural qualities that can help to soothe a chemo patient's skin. Vitamin A helps provide relief to sensitive skin, while the natural oils contained in our soaps help to nourish the skin.
Goat milk also contains fatty acids, which help to moisturize the skin as well as alpha-hydroxy acids, which help to exfoliate dead skin cells gently. These vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids do wonders for protecting against free radicals, promoting healthy skin and skin renewal.
How Can I Protect My Skin During Chemotherapy?
There are several ways to protect your skin during chemotherapy:
- Use gentle, fragrance-free skin care products: Avoid using harsh soaps or lotions that can dry out your skin.
- Avoid sun exposure: Chemotherapy can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so it's essential to avoid prolonged sun exposure. Wear protective clothing like a wide-brimmed hat when you're outside.
- Moisturize your skin regularly: Use a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type to help keep it hydrated.
- Care for your nails: Chemotherapy can cause changes in the color or texture of your nails. Keep your nails clean and dry, and use a moisturizer around the cuticles to prevent dryness.
- Avoid heat: Hot baths and showers can dry out your skin and make it feel itchy. Take lukewarm showers and baths instead.
- Avoid irritants: Avoid using products that contain alcohol or other irritants on your skin.
Is Goat Milk Good for Skin During Chemotherapy?
Goat milk is rich in vitamins and minerals and is gentle and moisturizing. Goat milk soap and lotion helps soothe and moisturize the skin during chemotherapy.
However, everyone's skin is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. Try a few goat milk soaps to find the right one for your skin type.

Hello Jonas family. I battled breast cancer in 2017 and a friend of mine gave me some of your soap. It was the only soap that gave my skin relief during chemotherapy. I loved it so much that I have been using your soaps exclusively ever since. Thank you so much for your wonderful products!

I am currently undergoing chemotherapy. I've been fighting my cancer for 3 1/2 yrs. now. My skin has been destroyed. The chemo & radiation has changed the texture and tone of my skin. Your soap is the only thing that helps it. Thank you for making the type of soap you do. I am very grateful. It's something I could do for myself that helps me feel better while I'm fighting this terrible disease.

I recently went though radiation for cancer in my lymph nodes. I was told that I should use goats milk soap during radiation. (by a cancer survivor) I started using it about a week before treatment started and continued though out my 6 weeks of treatment. My skin didn't even get red. I had heard the horror stories of burning and blistering of the skin. Nothing! My techs were amazed. I owe it all to goats milk soap.

Thank you GMS! You make the best soaps in the world indeed! I am having chemotherapy at the moment and yet, my skin loves the soaps you make. I love the organic castile soap, which is the best, most nourishing and mild soap every made. I have tried quite a few other organic castile soaps but none can compared to yours. I use this on my face and it never dries it out. I love the lotiony moisturizing texture and for those who have really dry skin or even those on chemo, I highly recommend this! Oh, did I mention that PJ is super nice and efficient too? The customer service is excellent!

Folks, I just finished a course of radiation. All the medics told me to expect terrible skin irritation. Although I did get one burn, it has healed completely and I had no other skin symptoms throughout the 7 weeks. I credit YOUR SOAP for my healthy skin! So, a thousand thanks to your family and your goats.

Wow! LOVE your products! I'm a soon to be chemotherapy patient and have been looking and spending a lot of money high and low to find unscented, no soybean oil since I'm ER+, softening and moisturizing soap and lotion products. I got your castile soap unscented and the bar lasts long and softens and moisturizes nicely. The lotion tub, unscented mango butter based, is great as well. A little goes a long way and it's not greasy. LOVE how minimal the ingredients are because as a chemo patient, I have to be as simple and wholesome as I can. And how you have mango butter based products which have no soybean oil which isn't good for us ER+ breast cancer patients!

I wanted to thank you for the special shampoo bar that I used during my cancer treatments. It was so gentle and lathered so well that I did not lose a lot of my hair. It just got thinner. I had 6 chemo treatments and 28 radiations but they are over now. I would recommend this shampoo to anyone who might have lost their hair or just need a gentle touch on their head. Also thank you for praying for me. That meant a lot. Have a wonderful summer!

I LOVE your product. I have never-ending rosacea and very sensitive skin which got much worse during the six rounds of chemotherapy I've just finished. Your Purity is the ONLY soap I can use on my face and I had tried just about everything. I use the word "had" not "have" on purpose: when a person finds your product, they do not have to continue looking. Bless you for whatever magic you do to make such a fine soap.

I just got my first order and was astounded that I ordered on a Friday and got it on Monday. The sample purity bar you sent was a welcome treat. My chemo/radiation, senstitve skin was immediately in heaven. Never before had my skin felt this good. Okay, maybe when I was 5 or 6 years old many years ago. You can be sure that I will be recommending your outstanding products to my friends and family. All the best and God bless.

Got my first order this week and so far I LOVE IT!! I got the Oatmeal, Milk & Honey luffa and suddenly the bumpy skin on my upper arms is smooth. My skin has been super dry from chemo and this has made a big difference. Also, I got the vanilla Lip Balm and it is fantastic...very moisturizing without feeling sticky or anything. Most balms only work while they are on and as soon as they wear off your lips are dryer than before. Your lip balm is fabulous and I only have to use it once a day for full time soft moisturized lips. : ) Thanks for a great natural product!

I now consider myself a Goat Stuff Girl ! I LOVE the way my skin feels. I asked PJ for advice because I just started chemo and wanted to keep a healthy skin and scalp. She advised me to use organic and I did, my skin feels like a babys skin, clean, soft and without creapiness(Is that a word ?) I'm 56 and my arms, neck and chest look much smoother after using the lotion stick daily. I'm buying more fore Mothers day gifts. I have ONE request, I need a MUCH LARGER Moisture Stick the way I use it I can go through it in a couple weeks !!!! THANK YOU for Goat Stuff and Happy Mothers Day P.J God Bless you and you family!

In May I was diagnosed with breast cancer. 2 surgeries, healing completed & starting 16 radiation treatments on Aug 7. I was talking with the doctor & he was reviewing options for creams during treatment. I mentioned what I had been using. Then, when he examined my incisions (under arm lymph & 2x in same breast incision) he said, "You've healed exceptionally well! " I looked @ my daughter & grinned. The ONLY thing I've used on my incisions is your tea tree lotion starting after the normal 3 wk healing period. On my lymph incision, I had a raised ridge that ran the whole 3" & felt weird - - no other way to describe. After applying the tea tree lotion, that ridge was flat in a week. The other incision has also benefitted. Even though my skin isn't reacting anymore, I keep applying your lotion after every shower & will be using it through radiation. I'm going to show him the jar at my next visit. I was excited & wanted you to know, in case other women might benefit. But then, knowing your expertise, you probably aren't surprised at all.

I just finished radiation therapy. It was supposed to wreak havoc on my skin. Everyone was amazed at how good my skin looked week after week. I credit goat milk soap for this difference! Thank you!

This is the only liquid soap I have found that is unscented, wholesome with minimal ingredients and leaves skin so very soft and moisturized! I am a cancer patient going on chemo and this is my hand soap while the unscented castile soap, another best, is my body soap. Passed the word to other breast cancer people I know as there is nothing better out there than these soaps!
