Using Natural Goat Milk Lip Balms

Indigo using Peppermint Goat Milk Lip Balm

The humid summer temperatures have given way to the cold, dry days of winter. Are your lips ready?

While you might change up your skincare routine to include thicker and more nourishing ingredients, it’s important to pay equally close attention to your lip care.

Conventional lip products might claim to do the trick, but there’s a reason why they run out so quickly and we replace them so frequently. By switching to natural goat milk lip balms, you can soothe and protect your lips all season long.

"The Almond lip balm is outstanding. I love that it’s long lasting & the almond flavor is perfect. All your products are great - soaps, lotions, laundry detergent & lip balm. I’ve been a loyal customer for many many years!" - Barbara S.

Today, we’re taking a closer look at the benefits that our lip balms provide, and how they outperform the conventional competition.

Natural Lip Balm vs Conventional Lip Products

If you’ve been using drugstore lip balm all of your life, you might wonder why goat milk alternatives are superior. After all, lip balm is lip balm, right?

Not quite! Let’s take a look at a few of the major differences you’ll notice in our Natural Goat Milk Lip Balms.

Natural, Healing Ingredients

Natural lip balm formulations use strictly natural ingredients, not ones formulated in a lab. In addition to our luscious dehydrated goat milk, you’ll also find nutrient-rich additions like beeswax, cocoa butter, and mango butter.

"Love the Raspberry lip balm. Now all I have to do is keep my daughter in law from grabbing mine. And yes I bought her one" - Helen O.

Not only do we use higher-quality, premium ingredients, but we also use fewer ingredients than the lip balms you’ll find in most stores. That’s because the ones we do use are star players, capable of enriching your lips from the inside out, without the use of unnecessary filler ingredients that add bulk, but not value.

Often, these “extra” ingredients do little more than dry your lips out further, which is why they run out not long after you buy them.

Cruelty-Free and Eco-Friendly

When you purchase a tube of lip balm off the shelf, you only see the product itself. While some companies are transparent about their manufacturing practices, others aren’t as forthcoming. This means there’s no way to know for sure if the balm was created in a cruelty-free environment.

When you purchase goat milk lip balm from a trusted family farm like Goat Milk Stuff, you can rest assured that our team does not participate in animal testing or engage in any practices that may damage the ecosystem and the creatures that live in it. All of the animals on our farm are loved, and treated like part of the family, because they are.

We’re also dedicated to keeping our ingredient list short, simple, and easy to read. Many commercial lip balms are full of additives that actually work to pull moisture away from your skin. This includes common humectants like hyaluronic acid, as well as glycerin. As they pull moisture from your lips, you reapply more lip balm, which then pulls more moisture from your lips, creating a terrible cycle. Commercial lip balms can also contain damaging parabens, along with synthetic colors and fragrances that lead to skin irritation and sensitivity.

By using fewer ingredients, we limit the impact of our operations and ensure that we’re using all of our natural resources as efficiently as possible. All of our lip balms are handmade and hand-poured, without any harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances.

"I was hesitant to try a different lip balm. For some reason, most make my lips break out in cold sores the day after using. I've used this lip balm 3 times over the past few days, and my lips aren't irritated at all! They're also so soft now. The Vanilla scent of the balm is pleasant, and the balm glides easily. I have no complaints and will be buying again." - Alexis T.

Health Benefits of Natural Lip Balm

By switching to natural goat milk lip balm, you’re pampering your lips with the ultimate in healthy nourishment.

The vitamins and antioxidants in our formulas don’t just help your lips feel better in the moment. They create a long-wearing lip moisturizer that lasts far beyond that first application.

Our lip balms contain nutrient rich, natural ingredients like:

  • Sweet almond oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Beeswax
  • Avocado oil
  • Cocoa butter
  • Mango butter
  • Dehydrated goat milk

Let’s take a look at some of these ingredients, and how they work together to create the best natural lip balm for all-day comfort.

Dehydrated Goat Milk

First, let’s talk about our star player. Dehydrated goat milk is our favorite ingredient in our natural lip balms. Adding goat milk to lip balms makes them rich in a variety of fatty acids, delivering natural moisture that keeps your lips hydrated all day long. Other reasons we love it include:

  • It contains lactic acid that provides excellent exfoliating properties
  • It maintains the pH balance of your lips and never feels harsh
  • It naturally contains an array of nourishing vitamins (A, B, E, D) and nutrients (selenium, zinc, iron, proteins)

By using dehydrated goat milk, and not the liquid, we are able to keep our lip balms free of chemical preservatives. If you're wondering why that makes a difference, keep reading!

Our goats are part of the family and we love using the extra milk they provide (don't worry, the babies get all they want first) to make as many different products as we can.

Beeswax

Beeswax delivers real, long-lasting benefits that go way beyond just making your lips feel soft and smooth. It contains natural emulsifiers that help your lips retain moisture, and its antibacterial properties help prevent the growth of infection-causing bacteria.

If you have sensitive skin, beeswax is the gentle, soothing answer to your irritation. It contains anti-inflammatory agents, as well as antioxidants, that keep your lips healthy and vibrant.

If your lips have been damaged due to periods of prolonged sun exposure or neglect, beeswax in your lip balm can save the day. This ingredient delivers potent repairing qualities and also acts as a protective barrier. When applied, it also keeps your lips smooth and sealed, helping to prevent future damage from UV rays as you spend time outdoors.

Another reason to love beeswax? It has a beautifully soft, sweet smell and taste that makes it enjoyable to wear on your lips!

Sweet Almond Oil

Think chapped lips are just destined to always be in your future? With sweet almond oil, that tight and dry feeling can be a thing of the past. This oil softly exfoliates your lips and keeps them moisturized around the clock, preventing them from drying out.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a much-loved ingredient in the skincare world, and for good reason. The lauric acid in coconut oil is ultra-moisturizing, sinking deeply into your lips and absorbing quickly for immediate relief.

Like beeswax, it has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that soothe signs of irritation and promote healing. When applied, the oil creates a barrier that helps block bacteria and other irritants from causing damage.

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil might not be as well-known as coconut oil, but it contains elements that are equally nourishing. Specifically, this oil contains a substance called sterolin that helps your lips feel super supple.

It also contains a high amount of Vitamin E, as well as essential fatty acids to promote softness and healing.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter works as an emollient and is a great source of natural antioxidants. This ingredient adds a protective and hydrating layer to your lips to protect them against extreme outdoor temperatures and dry indoor heat.

Mango Butter

Mango butter is extracted from the seed of a mango and is considered a powerhouse fatty acid. This highly hydrating ingredient deeply conditions dry, chapped lips but has a light, non-greasy texture. It fights against irritation and excessive dryness and also offers a degree of UV protection.

Using Powdered Goat Milk in Lip Balm

Why do we use dehydrated, powdered goat milk in our lip balm instead of liquid? Put simply, it eliminates the need for chemical preservatives. We chose this method to continue our mission of keeping ingredients minimal and avoiding harsh or unnecessary chemicals.

With a liquid base product, such as goat milk, there’s a greater potential for germs and other pathogens to grow. This is true even if you pasteurize the liquid and sterilize the other ingredients beforehand. The only way to block this growth is through the use of chemical preservatives, which we wholeheartedly want to avoid.

While some natural ingredients, such as Vitamin E and grapeseed oil, may have properties that act as natural preservatives, they are not robust enough to fully ward off this bacterial growth. The risk of contamination is too high.

This is why we only offer solid goat milk lotion and lip balms, which use dehydrated raw goat milk in a powdered form. This way, bacteria does not grow in it. This allows us to create a rich, nourishing product without exposing you to unhealthy bacteria or chemicals that take away from the moisturizing power of our goat milk lip balms and lotions.
