Are Bath Bombs Safe?

Bath bombs have become very popular lately and make for a relaxing time in the bathtub. They come in so many different fragrances and often help to soften the skin while also adding a fun color-changing effect to the water.

However, while they are convenient, bath bombs might actually not be the safest choice when you want to add some extra skin benefits to your bathtub. There are often harmful ingredients that are not good for the skin in these bombs. We’ll take a closer look at why bath bombs may not be the best choice for you and your family and discuss healthier alternative.

Harmful Ingredients In Bath Bombs

The craze about bath bombs does not only extend to adults, as many kids are also enjoying the fizzy effects that these balls add to their bathtubs. It makes bath time more fun - so parents may choose to turn to bath bombs to encourage regular bathing for their kids. Unfortunately, many people do not realize that what manufacturers use to make these bath bombs are not healthy for the skin.

The majority of bath bombs tend to use citric acid and baking soda as their base ingredients. These two ingredients neutralize each other when the bath bomb comes into contact with water, which creates that fizzing effect that so many come to enjoy. These, however, are not the only ingredients that make up bath bombs.

"A few months ago, my baby developed a weird "rash" on her body that the doctors said was dry skin...my baby's skin has been completely clear for a while now, and I use the Purity Goat Milk Bath 2x a week -- I just love it and wish that everyone else knew about it too. It's so sad that commercial baby bath products have all these harmful chemicals in them and then they have the gall to pronounce it "safe" for babies." - Faith D.

Fragrances are commonly added to bath bombs. These fragrances give them a strong aroma that can help you relax or feel rejuvenated after your bath. While some of these bath bombs use essential oils, others turn to synthetic fragrances that could cause irritation to your skin. Dyes are also commonly used in order to add fun, colorful effects to the bath bomb. When you drop the bath bomb in your bathtub, the dyes start to incorporate with the water. This is what causes the water to change color, but also something that could further cause problems for your skin.

There are often preservatives used to ensure the bath bombs have a longer shelf-life, and additives can be added to create unique effects in the bathtub. The addition of glitter to a bath bomb, for example, can have abrasive effects on your skin.

The ingredients that are combined with the citric acid and baking soda combination can cause irritation on your skin. These effects are even more common in people who have sensitive skin. The irritation can lead to rashes, itching, and redness. Another important factor that you should keep in mind is the fact that the ingredients of a bath bomb can alter the pH level of a woman’s vagina. When this happens, the risk of infections in the area increases, and irritation can also be more significant.

Goat Milk Stuff Uses Ingredients You Can Trust

When you buy bath bombs or any bath time products, it’s important to keep the ingredients in mind. Commercial companies often focus on using additives and preservatives, along with synthetic dyes and fragrances. These ingredients help to make the bath bombs unique but also cause problems with your skin. Transdermal absorption could also happen, which is when the ingredients contained within the bath bombs enter your body through your skin.

At Goat Milk Stuff, we’ve realized just how common the use of sulfates, triclosan, phthalates, and chemical preservatives is in everyday skincare products. We don't rely on the ingredients that you’ll generally find in commercial skincare products.
