Benefits of a Solid Lotion

solid lotion

Many people are familiar with the lotion from the store that you either squirt out of a tube or pump out of a bottle.  At Goat Milk Stuff, we don't make this type of lotion (you can read why I don't add goat milk to my lotion).  Instead we make a solid lotion which is similar to the consistency of a lip balm. It leaves your skin soft and smooth and many people much prefer the solid lotion once they've made the switch.

So what exactly are the benefits of a solid lotion?

No chemical or questionable preservatives

If you use liquid (especially raw goat milk) in a liquid type lotion, then you need to add enough chemical preservatives to ensure that bacteria doesn't grow.  Because these chemical preservatives are not good for your skin, some lotion makers will use natural preservatives.  But I don't believe enough safety testing is done on natural preservatives in real world lotion conditions to make sure bacteria isn't growing. In a solid lotion, there is no liquid environment in which bacteria can easily grow and no need for chemical preservatives.

Better value

Many liquid lotions have a high water content and contain over 50% water.  Our solid lotions do not waste your money on water or shipping that high water content.  This is better for your wallet.

Better for the environment

Because the solid lotions do not hold so much water, they are much more concentrated and need a lot less packaging to give you the moisturizing benefits of lotion.  Less packaging is always better for the environment.

Safer for your skin

Because there is no liquid environment that allows bacteria and fungus to grow, you don't have to worry about unseen nasties when using a solid lotion. I would never trust my family's skin to liquid lotions unless I knew bacterial tests were regularly being conducted on the liquid lotion.  I would want proof that the liquid lotion remained safe over time when subjected to the regular use and temperature differentials that occurs with typical family use.  With solid lotion, you don't need to worry about whether or not enough chemical preservative was used as there isn't the need for chemical preservatives.

Easier to carry

This lotion is easy to carry with you in your pocket or purse and you don't have to worry about it being flagged in your airport luggage.

Those are some of my favorite reasons why Goat Milk Stuff makes solid lotions available (and not goat milk lotion). If you've never tried solid lotion before, I think you're going to love it. There are many different scents available as well as an unscented version.

Just be sure not to use too much - a little goes a very long way!

Can someone email
Me please? I am new to your company and trying to figure out a good routine that won’t leave me dry.

Hi Angela – these solid lotions won’t make your skin oily if you use the proper amount. It only takes a very little bit because they aren’t diluted. If your skin is feeling oily or greasy, you’re using too much. Just use less. For example, I rub one stripe down my arm and rub it in. Hope that helps!

I have very oily skin do you have a moisturizer that wouldn’t make my skin more oily

Elaine- With the solid lotions you don’t need to rub it in, so you would have to try and reach as far as your can to get the lotion on your back. I am sorry I don’t have a better option for you! I am glad you are enjoying the products though!
