Skincare for Men

Skincare for Men

If you’re a guy who's never paid much attention to skincare or skincare products, hey, we get it. Most men either don’t take skincare seriously or they feel that starting a skin care routine may take the edge off their manliness. But it doesn't.

Many men are looking for easier ways to groom and prevent aging skin, now more than ever. It's safe to say, skincare isn't just a “female” thing anymore.

In fact, recent studies have shown the men’s skincare market is exploding worldwide. With products ranging from hair care to foot scrub, the men’s skincare market is expected to reach $18.92 billion by 2027… yes, that’s BILLIONS.

So, if you're looking for a way to feel and look your best by starting a clean skincare routine this year, then you're in the right place. In this guide you'll find five simple steps to implement a solid skincare routine. Plus a ton of nourishing clean products to treat your skin the way it deserves. Let's dive in!

Why Start a Clean Skincare Routine?

It’s natural for most guys to take care of their skin when there’s a skin “problem” such as acne, dry skin, or wrinkles. But the best way to prevent skin issues altogether is to have a rock-solid daily skin routine.

"My husband loves this scent in the soap so much that I just bought two soy candles in Evergreen for him. True story: he thanked me again today for discovering Goat Milk Stuff (about 5 years ago now!). He said that in his last visit to dermatologists, the doctor complimented him on his skin! Dr said that his skin looked 30 years younger than his age! This was not the case before we started using GMS soaps!" -
Sarah P.

Taking care of your skin right now is by far the best way to avoid isolated skin problems. Just like eating well, exercising, and getting a good night's rest can boost your health, a daily skincare routine will add several benefits to your overall health.

Remember, your skin is the largest organ of your body, and it’s exposed to many harmful elements throughout the day. From the sun to toxins to stress, your skin takes one heck of a beating. So, if you want to nourish that body armor of yours and galvanize it to guard against the day’s worst, below are simple steps you can take to start a clean skincare routine.

A Low Maintenance Skincare Routine For Men

If you're new to the clean skincare routine movement, don’t sweat. There’s ZERO heavy lifting or long hours at the spa needed. Some men may believe taking care of their skin is a daunting task.

It’s not. Especially if you follow these simple daily skincare steps.

#1 - Identify Your Skin Type

Identifying your skin type will help you determine your daily skincare routine and what your skin needs. If you’re not sure what your skin type is, take a look at how the American Academy of Dermatology Association breaks down the five skin types…

  • Sensitive skin may sting or burn after product use. If your skin gets red, burns, or itches when exposed to fragrances or typical cleansing products, you likely have sensitive skin.
  • Normal skin is clear and not sensitive. If your skin isn’t dry, oily, has no wrinkles, and doesn’t react to new skincare products, then you have normal skin.
  • Dry skin is flaky, itchy, or rough. If your skin feels tight, you likely have dry skin.
  • Oily skin is shiny and greasy. If you notice your skin is regularly shiny or glowing and your pores are enlarged, you likely have oily skin.
  • Combination skin is dry in some areas and oily in others.

And, we’d like to add one more skin type - aging skin for the fellas who are looking to care for wrinkles, dark spots, or slack in their skin.

Understanding your skin type will make it easier for you to know how often you’ll want to wash, what cleansing methods to use, and what products are optimal for your skin.

Getting to know your skin and how it will react to your skincare routine could be the difference between having healthy, smooth skin or skin that looks like tattered leather.

#2 - Determine How Often to Wash

If there’s one element of a skin routine men have down pat, it’s usually taking a daily bath or shower. But many men feel the need to shower more than once a day.

If you need a shower to wake up, wash the sweat off after a workout, or address body odor, then showering more than once a day is valid.  But there are a few downfalls to “over-showering” that you should keep in mind.

When you shower too often...

  • Your skin may become dry or itchy.
  • The over-use of soaps and shampoos can cause skin irritation.
  • You may kill the good bacteria on your skin.
  • Your immune system could lose healthy microorganisms found in our environment which help produce antibodies you need to build stronger immunity against nasty germs.
  • Plus, you could overexpose your skin to heavy metals, minerals, and cleaning agents (like fluoride and chlorine) if your water quality is poor.

But how often should you actually wash your skin?

The answer is really up to you and your lifestyle. Just remember that a daily shower (or multiple showers) is not mandatory for everyone - and it’s not ideal for every skin type.

#3 Wash with the Right Soap

Oatmeal Milk and Honey Shaving Goat Milk Soap For Men And Women
"I have been using this soap for many years and it is my go-to shaving option. I highly recommend this especially if you have sensitive skin like mine. I also remember seeing a video where the husband uses this shaving soap also because of his sensitive skin. Kudos keep up the good work, love this product!!" - John Green

It's important to choose natural products so that you’re not exposing your skin to several toxic-chemicals found in typical commercial soaps and shampoos.

Many men use our soaps on both their skin and their hair. If you are struggling with sensitive, dry, or eczema prone skin we recommend starting with the Purity Goat Milk Soap.

If you are struggling with oily, flaky, or acne-prone skin we recommend starting with the Tea Tree Goat Milk Soap.

If you have normal skin, you can choose a Scented Goat Milk Soap that appeals to you.

If you find that your hair needs a bit more care than our regular soaps provide, we do have specially formulated shampoo bars designed to care for your hair.

And don't forget to treat your face right if you shave often. We have a natural Goat Milk Shaving Soap that contains clay to help your razor glide smoothly across your skin. It also contains aloe to help your skin after being shaved.

Whichever soap you choose, each Goat Milk Stuff Soap is handcrafted from a simple list of natural ingredients, zero toxins, and is full of natural vitamins and minerals. Switching to a goat milk soap or shampoo can naturally reduce skin inflammation, repair cracking dry skin, and rejuvenate skin damage due to certain skin conditions and sensitivities.

#4 Exfoliate For Fresh Healthy Skin

Exfoliation is probably the most overlooked skincare regimen for men, but it’s vitally important.  Here’s why.

As a man’s skin ages, the natural exfoliation process slows down. That means the older your skin gets, the slower it removes any natural oil and dead skin build-up. The build up of dead skin over time can unfortunately leave your skin looking as tired and weathered as a garage floor covered with a layer of oil-soaked sawdust.

Exfoliation is simply the process of removing the dead skin cells to reveal the healthier skin below. It's basically like sweeping that garage floor.

"My husband and I absolutely love your soap. I have only used Oatmeal Milk and Honey, And I will continue to order for as long as we can." - Robin M.

Goat milk naturally contains lactic acid. This acts as a natural exfoliator so that when you use goat milk soap, it will help remove some of the extra dead skin cells.

But sometimes your skin needs even more exfoliation. To keep your skin looking fresh with a natural glow, consider exfoliating your skin with a Goat Milk Soap filled Luffa. These are cut into disks and are great for using on your face, scalp, and all over.

The best time for men to exfoliate the skin on their face is before a shave and a couple of days after. Exfoliating pre-shave removes dead skin and allows your razor to glide over the skin easier. Exfoliating the skin a few days after a shave will allows facial hair to grow through easier and prevents ingrown hairs.

#5 - Moisturize To Maximize Your Skin’s Health

Moisturizing your skin has a ton of benefits for men.  Regardless of your age, adding a moisturizer to your skincare routine can prevent skin problems like irritation, cracking, and oil build-up. How often should you moisturize? It totally depends on your skin type and your environment. Some experts recommend you use a moisturizer at least once a day.

When should you start moisturizing? Right now.

Whether you're 21 or 65 years old, moisturizing your skin will build a barrier of protection for your skin cells.  For the younger men, the earlier you can faithfully moisturize your skin, the better your skin will age. For older men who have aging skin... don’t ignore the importance of using moisturizing skincare products.

You need to beware moisturizers that squeeze, squirt, or pump to be applied. These liquid-based products are the perfect environment to let bacteria or mold grow. To prevent the growth of nasty ingredients, they need chemical preservatives. These chemical preservatives are harsh on your skin and aren't particularly healthy.

Instead, choose a Solid Goat Milk Lotion when selecting a moisturizer for your skin. Because dehydrated goat milk powder is used instead of a liquid, there is no need for chemical preservatives. Solid Goat Milk Lotions allow you to moisturize your skin safely.

Aged skin is more prone to dryness that can lead to excessive itching and infections. So choose a Solid Goat Milk Lotion that works for your skin. We recommend the Unscented if you are experiencing severely dry skin, cracking or peeling skin, or eczema. And we recommend the Tea Tree if you are experiencing acne or psoriasis.

If you are blessed with healthy skin that you are trying to keep that way, choose a scent that appeals to you.

Of course, lips are skin as well so take care of yours with a sugar-free, natural Goat Milk Lip Balm!

And don't forget to moisturize your beard if you have one! Our Beard Balm is excellent for keeping your beard healthy and looking great.
